How Healthy Are You?

When it comes to improving our health, we often tend to focus on the amount of food we consume. However, it's important to realize that our overall well-being is closely linked to our physical, mental, and emotional health. Our weight isn't the only factor that determines our health; our environment, finances, relationships, career, and social connections all impact our quality of life. Therefore, we need to look at all areas of our lives when we think about our overall health.

According to the National Institute of Health, the United States has the highest obesity rate among high-income countries. High rates of obesity are prevalent in U.S. children and in every age group thereafter. From age 20 onward, U.S. adults have some of the highest prevalence rates of diabetes (and high plasma glucose levels) compared to other countries. Additionally, the United States has the second-highest rate of heart disease.

If you have ever found yourself thinking, "I know what I should be doing, but I just can't seem to do it," you're not alone. Sustainable changes are about more than just willpower. It's not an all-or-nothing situation where you're either perfectly doing everything or you've already failed. Making lasting changes involves a holistic approach that takes into account your goals, your habits, and your overall lifestyle.

Making small changes over time is the best approach to achieve sustainable health improvement. Whether we're trying to lose weight, lower our blood pressure, improve sleep, or reduce anxiety and depression, we need to adopt healthy lifestyle changes gradually for the best results.

Does your physical, emotional, or mental health prevent you from doing things you'd like to do? It's important to think about your values when it comes to health and well-being. Are there any changes you need to make? If so, why are those changes important to you?
